Queen’s University has released a new report detailing the results of its 2024 Research Data Management (RDM) survey, conducted by the Vice-Principal Research (VPR) Portfolio and Queen’s University Library. The survey gathered insights from 236 researchers and support staff in research roles across 51 departments, assessing awareness and preparedness for meeting the requirements of the Tri-Agency RDM Policy (2021).
Key findings show that awareness of the policy has grown since the survey was previously administered in 2022, however there is still work to be done to familiarize researchers with its requirements, including completing data management plans (DMPs) and depositing data into a research data repository. Findings also indicate that throughout the lifecycle of a research project, researchers face challenges with storage solutions and disciplinary differences, and require more institutional support, including workshops, discipline-specific tools, and coordinated services.
The report outlines several recommendations to strengthen RDM practices at Queen’s, including improved communication, expanded training, and formalized collaboration across research support units.
The 2024 Report and Dataset are now available in QSpace and the Queen’s Dataverse Collection. The previous 2022 Report and Dataset are also available.
