December 2024 marks a special milestone for Omni – it’s the five-year anniversary of the Ontario academic search tool.
When Omni launched in December 2019, it was a shared system powered by the skills and expertise of teams from across 14 Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) member libraries. Today, Omni has expanded to 19 universities – and underpinning that development remains the radical collaboration that first made Omni possible.
Over the course of five years, we’ve seen Omni continue to grow and now Ontario students, faculty and researchers can discover and borrow items from a large, diverse collection of nearly 26 million academic resources. Omni has helped bring to life the Collaborative Futures vision of students, faculty and researchers experiencing a large, diverse, province-wide library collection, moving seamlessly between different types of content.
Today, Ontario campus communities can access nearly 26 million resources through Omni - directly requesting academic materials from across the province and having them delivered more quickly to a pick-up location of choice.
Together, Omni partner libraries problem solve and help build innovative information technology systems that provide access to information in every field of study. Your willingness to share knowledge and resources has fostered a strong sense of community among the participating universities.
To commemorate the five-year anniversary of Omni, the OCUL team has prepared a retrospective.
We hope you join us in celebrating Omni and this remarkable achievement in collaboration!
