About the GIS, Maps, and Government Information Unit
The GIS, Maps, and Government Information Unit is part of Queen's University Library's Archives & Special Collections department. We support the teaching and learning needs related to geospatial data, maps, air photos, and government information for faculty, students, researchers, and staff in all faculties at Queen's.
Our physical collections are located in the lower level of Stauffer Library. The majority of our collection of printed maps and air photos are held in the Map & Air Photo Collection, which has its own hours of operation separate from the rest of the library. Most of the printed and microformed government documents are shelved in the open and compact shelving, with some held in storage, available by request through Omni. We also hold some materials in the Queen's University Library Digital Collections.

Floor Plan
What’s on this floor:
The Map & Air Photo Collection room contains maps, atlases, books, and air photos, and staff at its Information Services desk can assist you in accessing these materials. Access to this space is available during its open hours, which are different from those of Stauffer Library, and can be viewed on the library's Locations & Hours page. Access outside of the Collection's open hours may also be available by appointment. Some of the Collection's books and atlases are located outside of the main space in the northeast corner of the Government Documents section.
The rest of the public areas of the lower level can be accessed when Stauffer Library is open.
- The Government Documents section contains publications from the Government of Canada, provincial, territorial, and municipal Canadian governments, and the United Nations. It also includes some microform collections from those jurisdictions.
- The Government Documents & Compact Shelving section contains publications from the governments of the United Kingdom, United States of America, from intergovernmental organizations, and from the European Union. It also includes some microform collections from those jurisdictions.
- The Gov Docs Reference sections contain key reference materials, including indexes used to find content in our microformed government document collections.
- The Gov Docs Folios sections contain oversized government publications from a variety of jurisdictions.
- The Microform Collection contains several government document collections, but is not exclusively government-related content.
