Kingston—Queen’s University will celebrate GIS Day on November 20th, 2024 recognizing innovative applications of geographic information system (GIS) technology in analysis, visualization, gaining insights into geospatial data, and thought leadership.
What is Geographic information system(s), GIS (noun)?
GIS is a technology that is used to create, manage, analyze, and map all types of data.
GIS connects data to a map, integrating location data (where things are) with all types of descriptive information (what things are like there). This provides a foundation for mapping and analysis that is used in science and almost every industry. GIS helps users understand patterns, relationships, and geographic context. The benefits include improved communication, efficiency, management, and decision-making.
GIS Day provides a forum for people to learn about GIS and for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society.
This year we will be celebrating GIS Day in Mackintosh Corry hallway and Room MC E230, starting at 12pm on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024.
Speakers include guests from the City of Kingston, Utilities Kingston, BeSpatial, Lennox and Addington, and Frontenac County GIS, Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Queen’s University Library and more.
