As the academic year gets underway, we are excited to share the results of the Stauffer Library main floor renovation with you. The renovation to the Daniel R Woolf Gallery introduces a range of new features designed to make the library more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for everyone.
Highlights of the renovation include:
- Expanded Adaptive Technology Centre (ATC): Now double in size, with new group study rooms, a quiet low-sensory pod, and enhanced lab space - for students registered with wellness services.
- Family-friendly space: A bookable area for students with children, complete with a playpen and beanbag chair, so parents can care for their children while using library resources.
- Other enhancements: Four computers equipped with accessibility software, wheelchair-accessible seating throughout (including in the new classroom), and gender-neutral washrooms, one featuring an adult changing station.
The renovation also ensures that Indigenous heritage and culture is more highly profiled in the space. A new stone sculpture, entitled Sundance, by David Maracle (Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory) was installed as a permanent art piece. You will find Sundance in one of the alcoves just past the spiral staircase, and the background and enclosure for the sculpture were also designed by the artist. (More to come on this soon!)
To mark this exciting transformation, we invite you to join our virtual grand opening. We’ve created a special video to welcome you back to Stauffer Library and to the new academic year. And don’t forget to stop by in person and see for yourself.
